Möbel Rieger
With seven locations, around 1,500 employees, and over 70 years of company history, Möbel Rieger is one of Germany’s leading furniture retailers. The family-owned business from Heidenheim an der Brenz has stood for quality, technological innovation, and social commitment for three generations. Together with burgdigital, its strong in‑store presence has been expanded with future‑proof digital sales channels.
Digitisation of brick‑and‑mortar furniture retail by connecting all sales channels and expanding online consulting
Shopware 6 multichannel strategy with online shop, ERP/PIM integration, and marketplace connectivity
Strengthened market position and access to new target groups and sales channels
DIGITALISATION IN THE FURNITURE RETAIL SECTOR
The furniture industry has traditionally been driven by brick‑and‑mortar retail, while the share of e‑commerce continues to grow. Classic advertising channels are losing impact as the first touchpoint with the target audience increasingly takes place online.
Customers move fluidly between online and offline channels, which challenges traditional IT architectures. The goal was to connect all systems using modern technology and thereby execute omnichannel processes efficiently.

TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION & OMNICHANNEL STRATEGY
Implementation was based on a Shopware 6 multichannel commerce platform, integrated with XcalibuR for automated product import and centralised data maintenance. Via MHS interfaces, stock levels, prices, and product information are synchronised in real time.
In addition, burgdigital developed an e‑commerce app with store locator, product catalogue, and basket synchronisation to optimally support customers and sales staff on the move.
The Shopware 6 platform forms the basis for Möbel Rieger's new online offering. It presents the extensive product range efficiently, integrates promotions and themes from the furniture stores, and thus ensures a consistent shopping experience.
Customers can quickly find the right products through engaging online experiences, convenient search and filter functions, and clear navigation. The checkout process offers the option of delivery or in-store pickup – seamlessly integrated with the existing in-store sales processes.
The new Shopware 6 platform seamlessly connects the online shop, app, physical stores, and integrated marketplaces into an omnichannel commerce experience. Inventory, prices, and product data are synchronized in real time, ensuring a consistent shopping experience for customers across all channels. For Möbel Rieger, this translates to greater reach, more sales opportunities, and stronger brand loyalty.
A data gateway from burgdigital takes all product and media data from Möbel Rieger's XcalibuR system and automatically imports it into the Shopware 6 online shop. Thanks to the integrated categorization, products are directly linked to the relevant navigation areas and optimally displayed in the search and filter functions.
Further product information, such as prices and availability, is imported via the MHS ERP system. A central data center from burgdigital consolidates all data sources, prepares them for the online shop, and makes them available in real time. Simultaneously, all processes within the data center can be monitored, audited, and analyzed – ensuring maximum data quality and efficiency in omnichannel commerce.
Möbel Rieger struggled with recurring payment cancellations when using the Unzer plugin. These problems led to an unstable payment experience at checkout and negatively impacted both the conversion rate and the user experience.
To overcome these challenges, burgdigital developed its own robust solution based on the official Unzer API. This customized integration ensures a reliable and error-free payment process and provides a transparent and stable payment path within the Shopware checkout.
burgdigital developed a customized e-commerce app for Möbel Rieger that supports both customers and sales staff. The app offers a store locator, a mobile-optimized product catalog, and shopping cart synchronization between the app and the online shop. This allows products to be researched, saved, or purchased anytime via mobile device – including in-store pickup or delivery.
FURNITURE TRADE SUCCESSFULLY EXPANDED DIGITALLY
With its new e-commerce platform, burgdigital has created a future-proof foundation for Möbel Rieger to sustainably expand its online business. The solution combines an omnichannel strategy with the competitive advantages of a regionally present furniture store and simultaneously opens up new sales channels in the digital market.
Thanks to centralized data management via XcalibuR and MHS interfaces, customers benefit from constantly updated product information, prices, and availability – both online and in-store. Optimized user guidance increases the conversion rate, while direct integration with marketplaces and the proprietary e-commerce app generate additional reach and revenue potential.
