Tailored online shop solution

Challenge: Expanding brick‑and‑mortar retail with e‑commerce

Holz‑Speckmann previously sold its range primarily through two local stores, with only a corporate website and no online shop. To keep pace with changing purchasing habits and rising digital expectations, a dedicated e‑commerce platform was needed to complement the branch business and enable online purchases.

Implementation of custom shop features

Given the wide range of customizable products, a solution was needed for managing variant items as well as calculating base prices and shipping costs. burgdigital took over the project as a partially completed shop from another agency and successfully delivered the online store in line with the client’s requirements.

Our solution: Shopware 6 with custom extensions

To successfully expand its digital commerce, burgdigital implemented a bespoke e‑commerce solution based on Shopware 6 for Holz‑Speckmann. The platform makes it possible to offer the extensive product range online and to integrate customizable products with variants as well as price and shipping cost calculations. Shopware 6 seamlessly supports the existing store offers and provides customers with a user‑friendly and efficient shopping experience. Relaunch and migration to Shopware 6

As part of the relaunch, a thorough analysis of the existing shop structure and the features already implemented was first carried out. On this basis, burgdigital implemented the remaining customer requirements and optimized existing elements to improve user experience and functionality.

Shopware 5 to 6 migration as the technical foundation

The migration from Shopware 5 to Shopware 6 not only brought the technical foundation up to date, but also enabled extensive customization of the shop. This bespoke solution strengthens the platform’s future viability and ensures a more efficient and flexible sales structure.

Integration of an interactive catalog solution

In the digital age, content should not only inform but also deliver real added value. By integrating YUMPU Publishing, Holz‑Speckmann can create visually appealing interactive flip catalogs and make its product range accessible online.

Flip catalogs for all devices

These catalogs can be viewed seamlessly on all devices, significantly increasing their reach. Customers can not only browse the range conveniently, but also access further information directly via the interactive interface, which noticeably enhances the shopping experience.

Solutions for tailored product variants

To meet the growing demands of the market, it is crucial to fulfill individual customer requirements in the best possible way. A wide variety of product variants has therefore become indispensable.

Shopware 6 already provides out‑of‑the‑box solutions for variant‑rich assortments, which burgdigital has enhanced with custom developments. This further improves the shopping experience and increases the conversion rate.

Development of custom plugins

Due to the specific product range, extensive services, and differentiated shipping costs, some desired functions could not be covered by standard plugins.

burgdigital therefore developed custom plugins, including a base price calculation for various units (e.g. linear metres, units, square metres), a shipping cost calculator based on postcode queries, and a dedicated enquiry function directly on the product detail pages. These bespoke adaptations optimize the shopping experience and provide customers with a precise, user‑friendly solution.

Interface integration for external tools

Holz‑Speckmann placed great importance on the seamless integration of external third‑party systems into the new online shop. Thanks to Shopware 6’s API‑first architecture, these systems could be connected without difficulty. Various online planners, such as the fence configurator, gate configurator, and terrace planner, were integrated directly into the existing shop structure, providing customers with an end‑to‑end, user‑friendly planning experience.
