As an interliving partner, Heka offers leading manufacturers’ top brands. With the e-commerce project, the company is now positioning itself as the Heka Markenmöbel Shop to target customers beyond its local region.

SUCCESSFUL E-COMMERCE FOR A TRADITIONAL FURNITURE RETAILER

Challenge

Heka Einrichtungswelten has a loyal customer base that values personal interaction and expert advice from experienced sales staff. Sales processes have run smoothly for many years, so there was previously no need for extensive digitalization. With the strategic move into e-commerce and digital sales channels, the company therefore decided to build this business area separately.

Our solution: E-commerce strategy with XcalibuR

The Heka branded furniture shop is designed to spark interest in high-quality furniture from multiple brands within a previously untapped target group. Its product base consists of top models from leading manufacturers, promoted via online advertising to drive prospects directly into the shop. To enable configuration of highly variable furniture, the XcalibuR configurator is integrated into the e-commerce system. This allows customers to create their preferred configuration for many models – including all available options – and order them directly online.

Online consulting during configuration

With free shipping, short delivery times and delivery right into the customer’s home, even critical online shoppers are convinced. In addition, trained advisors are available to support customers with any questions about their furniture purchase. For online consultations, users can share their configuration with a sales advisor, who can then refine it together with the customer and guide them all the way to completing the purchase online.

Technical concept with Shopware

The online shop was implemented on the Shopware Evolve platform. Via middleware, all items – including product information and media – are imported from the JTL ERP system and XcalibuR, then distributed across the shop’s categories.

This also includes all attributes used for search and filtering. A custom burgdigital plugin enriches the product detail pages with additional content experiences for selected product information.

Furniture configurator

To enable configuration of variable furniture, the XcalibuR configurator was integrated into the shop. burgdigital exclusively distributes a Shopware plugin for the XcalibuR configurator, which maps diverse configuration options directly within the online shop.

For the Heka branded furniture shop, a guided selection of desired options was implemented. Step by step, users are presented with suitable products that match their chosen materials and functions. Where a 3D catalogue is available, configurations can also be visualised.

Online consulting in configuration mode

Orders are transferred to JTL via an interface, with configuration data mapped from XcalibuR. If the customer requests online consulting during configuration, they contact a sales advisor by phone, chat or email and share their current configuration.

The advisor then joins the session via a link so that both work in the same configuration. In this mode, the salesperson can adjust not only the configuration itself but also the price for the customer.

Outcome & added value

Thanks to a strategic performance marketing approach, the Heka branded furniture shop quickly gained traction with its target audience and impressed users with its extensive range. The configurator in particular gives customers a wide array of options for each model. As a result, every user can create their ideal furniture combination, and together with the support of trained advisors, the digital sales channel is becoming increasingly successful.
